Michelle De Bruin Tests Positive For Testosterone -- June 8, 1998

BARCELONA, SPAIN - Traces of an artificially produced testosterone were discovered in the urine of Michelle De Bruin. FINA announced last month that both samples of a random urine test on her showed evidence of tampering. IOC medical chief Prince Alexandre de Merode said a Barcelona, Spain, laboratory used a new test to look for artificial evidence of the banned hormone, which also is produced naturally in the body, after the Irish swimmer provided a urine sample in January.
