Speedo Renews Endorsement Deal With Lenny Krayzelburg

LOS ANGELES, March 12. THREE-TIME Olympic gold medalist Lenny Krayzelburg has renewed his individual endorsement deal through 2005 with Speedo, it was announced today. He originally signed in 1998.

A Soviet immigrant who obtained U.S. citizenship in 1995, Krayzelburg charmed America with his gold medal performances at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games in the 100-meter and 200m backstroke, where he set Olympic records, as well as the world record-breaking 400m medley relay.

Following his Olympic performances, the University of Southern California graduate turned his focus to Israel, where he broke the 100m backstroke record at the 2001 Maccabiah Games. In 2002, following shoulder surgery, he came back strong by securing a spot on the World Championships team and also won the 100m backstroke at the U.S. Open.

Krayzelburg will compete at the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool between the USA and Australia on April 6, in Indianapolis. The meet will be televised on NBC-TV, April 12 – 13.

“Speedo's technical swimwear and accessories, as well as their early support in my career, had a direct impact on achieving my dream of winning three Olympic gold medals in Sydney,” said Krayzelburg. “I look forward to working with Speedo to develop even faster products on the road to the 2004 Athens Olympics.”

“Lenny was among a select group of swimmers that helped develop the Speedo Fastskin, which is the fastest swimwear ever produced,” said Stu Isaac, Senior Vice President, Team Sales and Sports Marketing. “His continued input will be important to our product and marketing plans for 2004.”

Speedo’s new sponsorship of Krayzelburg goes beyond a traditional agreement. The company will also support his efforts by contributing to a “learn to swim” program that is being developed by him, as well as the Lenny Krayzelburg Foundation, a charity linked to aquatic sports and water safety.
