NCAA Div. III: Hope Sweeps Albion in Close Contests -- November 9, 2002

HOPE, Mich., Nov. 9. THE Flying Dutch improved to 2-0 in MIAA duals with a 128-107 victory while the Flying Dutchmen opened league action with a 116-85 triumph. The men are 2-0 overall and the women 2-1.

The Flying Dutchmen had three double winners -- Matt Waterstone in the 200 freestyle (1:53.21) and 200 backstroke (2:06.10); Jeff Heydlauff in the 50
freestyle (:22.79) and 200 breaststroke (2:25.42); and diver John Wright on the one-meter (252.30) and three-meter (259.30) boards. Other winners were Dan Bouwens, 200 butterfly (2:07.58); Jack Taber, 100 freestyle (:55.55) and Chris Hamstra, 500 freestyle (5:04.43).

The Flying Dutch relied on depth to win their meet as each team won five individual events. Hope winners were Erin Vandenberg, 1,000 freestyle (11:00.70); Michelle Smith, 200 freestyle (2:00.56); Meagan O'Neil, 200 backstroke (2:16.41); Sara Smith, 500 freestyle (5:26.05) and Kelly Parker, 200 breaststroke (2:30.50)
