Stanford Men Hosts Arizona Schools -- January 25, 2002

The No. 1 Stanford men's swimming and diving team hosts the Arizona schools to open league competition ... The Cardinal will take on No. 9 Arizona on Friday, January 25 at 1 p.m. in the Avery Aquatic Complex ... The dual meet will be held in conjunction with the women's team with an alternating event format ... Stanford will host No. 5 Arizona State on Saturday, January 26 at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out: The top-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 12 Michigan 134-109 at Canham Natatorium. Markus Rogan led the Cardinal attack winning the 200 IM and 200-yard backstroke, while Randall Bal earned victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle. Stanford got on board first by winning the 400-yard medley relay. Dan Westcott, Peter Lennox-King, Bobby O'Bryan and Jeff Guyman finished in 3:17.52. The Cardinal dropped the next two races, but won the seven of the final ten events to seal the team's fourth victory in dual meets. Jayme Cramer picked up a win in the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.59), while Bal won the 100-yard freestyle in 44.60. Rogan won the 200 backstroke in 1:44.99, edging out teammate Peter Marshall, who finished second with a time of 1:45.62. Michael Bruce also picked up a victory for Stanford in the 200-yard breaststroke in 1:59.01. Michigan gave Stanford a scare in the final event of the day, but the Cardinal's team of Guyman, Marshall, O'Bryan and Andrew Schnell pulled out the victory in the 400-yard freestyle relay by .16. The foursome won the event in 2:58.21.

Up Next: Stanford will travel to Los Angeles to face Southern California on Saturday, February 9 at 1 p.m.
