Western Illinois vs. UW-Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin, January 21. IN their first home meet since mid-November, the Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up dominating wins Friday night, defeating Western Illinois at the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium. All 26 events ended with a Phoenix in first place, as the men's team rolled to a 121-78 victory and the women's squad picked up a 121-73 win.

The Green Bay women improve to 8-1 on the year in dual meets, while the men move to 7-2.

Phoenix junior Amber Bartholomew (Alexandria, Minn.) was a two-time winner on the women's side, taking the 400-yard IM in 4:35.10 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.13. Also winning twice individually was sophomore Melissa Killpatrick (Elk River, Minn.), who dominated the distance events Friday, taking the 500 (5:17.57) and 1000 (10:44.40) freestyles races.

Picking up three total wins for the Green Bay women was senior Alyssa Danielson (Rogers, Minn.), who took the 50 free in 24.34 and also helped her team to victories in the 400 medley (4:02.72) and 400 free (3:39.31) relays.

Senior Kayla Deters (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) won both diving events, finishing with a score of 230.18 on the 1-meter board before posting a total of 218.93 on the 3-meter board.

Freshman Cole Hackney (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had a solid meet for the Green Bay men's squad, earning a pair of individual wins. Hackney cruised to a first-place finish in the 50 free, touching in at 21.86. The freshman picked up his second win in the 100 fly, finishing with a time of 53.90.

Jason Askew (Durban, South Africa) also won twice for the Phoenix men, taking the 200 and 500 freestyle races. The senior finished the 200 with a time of 1:46.10 and the 500 in 4:46.98.

On the diving boards, junior Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn.) once again was a two-time winner, taking the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Pogue totaled 291.08 on the low board, while winning the high board with a score of 308.40.

The Green Bay swimming and diving teams continue their five-meet homestand tomorrow morning, hosting in-state rival Wisconsin. The Phoenix and the Badgers get things underway at 10:30 a.m. with the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Swimming events begin at 2 p.m.
