USA Swimming Sectionals, Shenandoah: Kara Kopcso Posts Two Podiums

SHENANDOAH, Texas, July 31. THE last night of racing at the USA Swimming Sectionals in Shenandoah went in the books with a youngster putting up some impressive performances.

Blast's Kara Kopcso, 14, won the women's 200 IM in 2:20.65, while Lubbock's Madisyn Cox, 15, finished second in 2:21.49. Space City's Sarah Peterson earned third in 2:23.04. Karson Applin touched in 2:09.46 to win the men's 200 IM. Dallas Mustang Jonathan Beckwitt took second in 2:10.37, while Academy of Texas' David Jason Taylor grabbed third in 2:11.15.

The Woodlands' Erin Foster claimed the women's 200 fly in 2:17.45. Kopcso turned in her second podium of the night with a second-place 2:18.70. City of Plano's Deanna Marks took third in 2:20.69. Tiger's Martin Jungfleisch topped the men's 200 fly in 2:05.15. Cypress Fairbank's Maxwell Lewis finished a close second in 2:05.51, while Alamo Area's Andrew Skowronek, 15, took third in 2:07.03.

Dallas Mustang Claire Brandt captured the women's 50 free in 26.52, while Houston's Danielle Yoho took second in 27.27. Lakeside's Alexandra Sellers, 15, placed third in 27.30. Power for Life's Joshua Bagby earned the men's 50 free title in 23.73. Cannon Clifton, 15, finished second in 24.05, while Power for Life's Randal Smith wound up third in 24.07.

The Woodlands' Elizabeth Nelson stopped the clock in 17:11.13 to win the women's 1500 free. Alamo Area's Colleen Konetzke placed second in 17:30.49, while Tiger's Alyssa Dilldine, 15, claimed third in 17:30.92. Longhorn's Daeton Davenport won the men's 1500 free in 16:17.62. Aggie's Benjamin Munster took second in 16:25.01, while Houston Cougar Mark Grijalva finished third in 16:34.19.

Alamo Area's Kim Pavlin, Samantha-Marie Cohn, Claudia Carlson and Cassie Niles won the women's 400 medley relay in 4:26.62. Fort Worth's Jeffrey Gettel, Joseph Daniels, Devin Ross and Benjamin Barrett topped the men's 400 medley relay in 3:59.73.
