USA Swimming Sectionals, Santa Clarita: Casey Mims Scares Meet Record

SANTA CLARITA, California, July 22. THE USA Swimming Sectionals held in Santa Clarita nearly showcased a meet record in long course meter format. Meanwhile, Ally Howe turned in a pair of podium performances.

Casey Mims just missed the meet record in the women's 200 breast with a 2:31.77 for the win. Stephanie Gabert's 2005 mark of 2:31.23 remained on the books. Gretchen Jaques touched second in 2:33.20, while Lilian Alvarez picked up third-place honors in 2:36.03. Takeshi Yamada topped the men's 200 breast in 2:19.32, while Keisuke Yagi finished just behind with a second-place 2:19.59. Nick Korth snatched third in 2:23.20.

Howe nabbed the women's 200 fly title in 2:15.90, while Megan Rankin took second in 2:16.19. Chelsea Weedman held off Rachel Grant, 2:16.38 to 2:16.53, for the final podium spot. Adam Jorgensen cruised to victory in the men's 200 fly with a 2:02.55, while Costa Hadjipateras took second in 2:04.00. Young Tae Seo claimed third in 2:04.21.

Andrea Reigel won the women's 200 back in 2:18.96, with Anja Crawford (2:19.25) and Howe (2:19.58) closing out an exciting race for second and third. Chase Bloch posted a 2:04.69 to win the men's 200 back, while Chris Riley earned second in 2:07.34. Logan Redondo rounded out the top three in 2:08.19.

Amanda Smith captured the women's 100 free in 57.87, while Sarah Geerdes took second in 58.14. Chelsea Fong pocketed third in 58.26. Garrett Thompson snared the men's 100 free title in 52.21, while Ryan Hanni earned second in 52.52. Steven Woods finished third in 52.67.
