Jenny Thompson Releases Statement Regarding Attempted Robbery
BROOKLINE, Massachusetts, July 1. VARIOUS news outlets across the country reported about an attempted robbery involving eight-time Olympic gold medalist Jenny Thompson on Monday night.
Thompson told media members that while riding her scooter on Monday night, she engaged in a scuffle after two assailants punched her and attempted to steal her scooter. She fought back and "screamed for help" according to reports, which led to the attempted thieves running from the scene of the crime. Thompson escaped the scary situation with a "cut on her nose and several scrapes."
Thompson has since released the following statement through agent David Arluck of Arluck Promotions:
I've never been one to live scared, and I've always believed that people deep down want to be "good". These two beliefs were slightly shaken after being assaulted on my motor scooter Monday night. However, the support and well wishes that I've received over the past couple of days has more than helped me to heal. I am doing well (only a slight black eye), hiding away only because I am trying to study for my upcoming board certification in Anesthesiology. Thank you to everyone, and I hope that in some small way my experience gives you strength.
Peace, Jenny Thompson
