FINA to Debut New “Team Event” in Conjunction with World Cup Diving

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, June 1. THE FINA Diving World Cup, the top international competition of the 2010 season, officially starts June 2 in Changzhou, China, but a new diving event will debut Tuesday.

FINA will conduct a "team event" on June 1, and David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Haley Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.) will make up the U.S. team.

Each team must consist of one male and one female diver, each of whom must do three dives. Of the six dives, three must be from the 10-meter platform and three from the 3-meter springboard, and each diver must do at least one dive from each board. Additionally, each of the six dive categories (reverse, armstand, etc.) must be represented.

Boudia will do a reverse 3 ½ tuck and an inward 3 ½ tuck from 3-meter and a forward 4 ½ tuck on 10-meter. Ishimatsu will perform a back 2 ½ pike on 3-meter and a back 2 ½ with 1 ½ twists and a forward armstand double somersault with a twist on 10-meter.

The team event will begin at 4 p.m. on June 1. The FINA Diving World Cup will run June 2-6.
