200 fly: 1:55.63 from Speedo Sectionals @ Belmont Plaza in December of last year.
She'll have just graduated Palo Alto High and presumably ready to tear up the college ranks wearing her two favorite colors of...blue and gold perhaps?
May 23, 2010 Maya DiRado from Maria Carillo High in Northern California set a national independent-scool record in the 200 M Satuday with her nation-leading/pr 1:56.17.
The swim was done at the CIF North Coast Championships in Concord.
She broke her old national-record of 1:57.08 from last year's meet.
She'll be swimming for Stanford next fall along with North Baltimore's Felicia Lee, among other top Cardinal recruits.
Hmmmmm.
Wodner if Stanford coach Lea Mauer can petition NCAA to grant Julia Smit yet another year's eligibility on grounds itis a "grave hahrdship" to lose her!
Somehow I don't think that'll fly.
The national high-school record in the girls' 200 IM is 1:53.82 by Dagny Knutson from last fall's Norrh Dakota state meet.
Considering that time is fifth (performers) and ninth (performances) all-time I think it might last for a spell.
Chelsea Chenault, A froshwoman from Natalie Coughlin's old school (Carondolet) won both the 200/500 frees @ the North Coast meet in excellent times/prs of 1:;45.87-4:43.43.
The latter is fastest nationally with her 200 ranking No. 2 to Totosky's 1:;44.11.
Watch out for her in coming years and certainly DiRado ain't no slouch either!
She also has prs of 1:55.11 (200 back), 1:58.17 (200 fly) and 4:06.48 400 IM.
Her 1:56.17 200 IM is fastest-ever by a Califronia high schooler and third-fastest performance all-time high school.
Knutson's 1:53.82 from the prelims of last fall's North Dakota state meet ranks No. 1 and her 1:55.79 in the finals is second-best.
Still blows me away that a girl from North Dakota can be such an outstanding swimmer but then Ian Crocker competed for a small program in Maine before going to Texas a decade ago and he didn't have too bad a career...so ya' just never knows where somebody great's gonna spring from.

May 23, 2010 Thanks Slickwillie - following your comments, 3 more notes re: NCS meet
1. DiRado' HS (Maria Carrillo, Santa Rosa) is a public HS, so not eligible for independent HS record
2. Kasey Carlson's 59.52 100 Breast (while not her fastest) should not be taken for granted!
3. Carondelet's 200 MR features 3 National Junior Team members - Chenault, Madison While (back), and Alison Gargalikis (breast) - entire relay comes back next year.

May 23, 2010 V/good.
I wasn't able to tell from school name if it was private/public so I presumed -- incorrectly as it turns out - it was former.
So Maya is now No. 2 all-time high school, no independent-school record but still a great swim and fastest all-time by a California prepster and No. 1 nationally for 2009-'10 season.
I wasn't knocking Carlson's 59.5, just noting it was not quite as quick as her national-record from last season.
With her 22.5 50 speed Carlson could well get American record i n100 yard breast before too long -- say next year's Pac-10s/NCAAs?
Madeline Schaefer went a 48.98 to win 100 at CCS incidentally and led off her school's 400 FR in 49.04.
She was 48.83 at that meet in Texas in March for her pr and her old 50 best was a 22.49.
ALL these times were done in non "shinysuits" so there can be no question about their "legitimacy" or that it was the "suit on the kid," not the kid in the suit.

May 23, 2010 At the Nevada state high-school meet yesterday in "Sin City" (UNLV's Runnin' Rebel Pool) Palo Verde senior Cody Miller -- NAG record-holder in 15-16 100-200 yard braaststroke -- won and set state records in 100 breast (54.55) and 200 IM (1:47.53) whule helping lead his school to the state title.
Miller also led off the winning 400 FR in 46.17.
His prs/NAG records: 54.38/1:56.36 from the JOs in Austin two years ago.
Anyone know where he's going to college?

May 23, 2010 Never letting my fountain of useless trivia go unused, here's mas.
The ninth-grade girl who won CCS 100 back for Pioneer High in 55.05 (Linnea Mack) also swam at this year's Indiana prep championshuips in Indianapolis last February, clocking 55.10 for Washington High.
Don't know if she won there or not.

May 23, 2010 Not sure where you found that, but I was looking at the results from the Indiana State meet, and...didn't see her name anywhere?

May 23, 2010 I too went back and checked the Indiana state girls' meet from last February and, sure as shootin', there AIN'T no Linnea Mack in the 100 back event, prelims, finals, nada (and since there is no 400 MR in high school she couldn't have done it as a leadoff leg either).
I clearly had her name on my list @ 55.10 before I deleted it or rather changed it so I have LESS than NO idea where I got the info originally.
I have the girl who won the 100 back (Carmel's Lacey Locke in 54.60) listed correctly ao where I got 55.10 remains one of the great unsolved mysteries of our era.
Anyway it's all academic as she [Linnea Mack] swam faster @ CIF yesterday.
Next season?
51.84!!!

I believe her winning 100 free time was actually 48.61.
