Maria Lenk Trophy: Cesar Cielo Posts Fiery 100 Freestyle

SANTOS, Brazil, May 8. A minor back injury hasn't hampered world record holder Cesar Cielo this week at the Maria Lenk Trophy long course meet, and he continued to prove it with a major swim in the 100 freestyle final.

Cielo swam an impressive 48.63 to win the event. His time puts him fifth in the world in the event, about three tenths behind Alain Bernard's world-leading 48.32. Second place at the meet went to Vinicius Rocha with a 49.86. Rounding out the podium was Bruno Fratus with a 50.40.

Starting off the meet was the women's 100 free final, with a victorious swim posted by Tatiana Barbosa. Her time was 55.91. In second place was Flavia Delaroli with a 56.62, and in third was Daynara Paula with a 56.76.

The women's 200 IM was won by Joanna Maranhao with a 2:17.60, well ahead of Larissa Cieslak's 2:20.70 and Julia Gerotto's 2:21.24.

In the men's 200 IM, Henrique Rodrigues was the top swimmer in a three-way battle for the win. Rodrigues got to the wall ahead of Thiago Pereira with a winning time of 2:02.46. Pereira touched the wall in 2:02.53. In third place was Andre Schultz with a 2:02.66.

The women's 50 breast final was won by Tatiane Sakemi with a 32.70, barely ahead of Ana Carvalho's 32.79. Rounding out the podium was Carolina Mussi with a 33.06.

World championships silver medalist Felipe Silva won the men's 50 breast with a 27.81, more than a second off his national record that he set in Rome last year. Joao Luis finished in second with a 28.20 and in third was Henrique Barbosa with a 28.39.
