MALAGA, Spain, April 24. RAFAEL Munoz faced a rare defeat on his home soil today at the Spanish Open.
Munoz, the world record holder in the 50-meter butterfly, was touched out in the final of the men's 100 fly today. Poland's Konrad Czerniak was able to get to the wall first with a 52.71. Munoz was second in 53.41, while Carlos Lenador was third in 54.42. Munoz races in his pet event tomorrow.

Men's 800 free final
Marco Rivera was more than 12 seconds over his national record, but won his second event of the meet handily with an 8:02.73. Rounding out the podium in a close finish were Ignacio Fernandez with an 8:12.12 and Alvaro Vicente with an 8:12.81.
Women's 1500 free final
Marianna Lymperta of Greece was the winner of the women's distance event with a 16:27.81. Eider Santamaria finished second in 16:30.56 and in third was Erika Villaecija with a 16:36.23.
Women's 100 fly final
Judit Ignacio made a run at Angela San Juan's national record of 59.60, but fell just short with a 59.86. The time did break Ignacio's meet record of 1:00.15 from last year. Second place went to San Juan with a 1:00.74 and third place went to Laura Gutierrez with a 1:01.22.
Men's 50 breast final
National record holder Hector Monteagudo won the event with a 28.37, while Daniele Cremonesi's 28.47 and Ivan Aguirre's 29.16 were second and third, respectively.
Women's 50 breast final
Concepcion Badillo, the national record holder, won the sprint breaststroke handily with a 32.34, but was more than a second off her national mark. Jessica Vall was second in 33.04 and Cassandra Gimeno was third in 33.12.
