International Swim Meet: Nikolay Skvortsov Closes Meet With Record

BERLIN, Germany, March 7. THE final day of long course meter action at the International Swim Meet in Berlin featured another meet record falling by the wayside.

Russia's Nikolay Skvortsov ended the meet with a meet-record time in the men's 200 fly. Skvortsov posted a 1:58.22 during prelims to demolish the previous mark of 2:01.25 set by Johannes Dietrich in 2004. Skvortsov's effort put him among the top 10 in the world this year.

Italy's Filippo Magnini nearly popped a meet record in the men's 100 free with a time of 49.32. That swim just missed Steffen Deibler's 2009 mark of 49.15. Poland's Konrad Czerniak claimed second in 50.21, while Italy's Lucio Spadaro finished third in 51.20. Germany's Dorothea Brandt took home the women's 100 free title in 56.25. Norway's Henriette Brekke touched second in 56.72, while Italy's Erica Buratto earned third in 57.29.

Italy's Mirco Di Tora turned in a 25.91 to win the men's 50 back. Poland's Krzysztof Jankiewicz took second in 26.49, while Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn grabbed third in 26.55. Italy's Chiara Boggiatto topped the women's 50 breast in 32.61. Brandt claimed her second podium with a 32.89 for second place. Italy's Ilaria Scarcella captured third in 33.45.

Great Britain's Michael Jamieson (1:02.21) and Darren Mew (1:02.72) finished 1-2 in the men's 100 breast. Norway's Sverre Naess placed third in 1:03.24. Poland's Klaudia Nazieblo followed with a 1:02.50 to win the women's 100 back. Italy's Veronica Neri (1:04.25) and Roberta Ioppi (1:04.26) wound up second and third.
