North Carolina Swimming Senior Championships

HUNTERSVILLE, North Carolina, February 1. YMCA of the Triangle Area Swim Team men and Star Aquatics women dominated throughout the entire four-day short course yard championship. YOTA men won all three relays, the 800 free relay (6:51.11), 400 free relay (3:04.56), and 400 medley relay (3:27.56).

Three members from those relays, National Youth Team Member Dominick Glavich, along with teammates Matthew Taylor and Joseph Bonk were multiple winners. Glavich had an impressive six individual wins, including the 100 breast (57.58), 100 fly (49.23), 400 IM (4:00.59), 200 fly (1:49.22), 200 breast (2:08.15) and 200 IM (1:52.67), while Taylor picked up two individual wins in the 200 free (1:40.81) and 500 free (4:39.35). Bonk claimed the 50 free (21.00) and the 100 free (45.86).

Although the YOTA men swept the relays and won many individual events, they came up short to SwimMAC Carolina's overall men's team score of 598.5 points and settled for second with 484.5 points.

Similarly, Star Aquatics swept the women's relays with wins in the 800 free relay (7:33.47), 400 free (3:28.55) and 400 medley relay (3:53.43).

Carolyn Blalock of the Waves of Wilmington picked up four individual wins including the 200 fly (2:02.63), 200 IM (2:05.79) and two Senior National cuts in the 100 fly (54.66) and 400 IM (4:19.38).

Kathleen Baker, 12, of Star Aquatics won the 100 back (55.91) and 200 back (2:02.27) and served on all three winning relays. Teammate Faith Johnson won the 200 free (1:51.36), 50 free (23.82), and 100 free (51.43).

Victoria Mitchell from the Marlins of Raleigh took control of the distance events, winning the 500 free (4:55.98), 1000 free (10:05.35), and 1650 free (16:47.90).

Star Aquatics took first in the overall women's scores with 501 points with SwimMac Carolina came in second with 452 points.
