UNLV vs. Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colorado, January 30. THE Rams swimming and diving team always is energetic at home, but Saturday's meet was extra special as it was Senior Recognition Day at Moby Pool and CSU hosted and defeated UNLV, 185-115.

That energy motivated Colorado State (8-1, 6-1 MWC) to three team season-bests and a wire-to-wire lead over UNLV (2-9, 2-5 MWC) en route to an undefeated home record and its fifth consecutive win at Moby Pool since Jan. 17, 2009.

"It feels good to be 8-1," said Head Coach John Mattos. "That is the most important thing right now."

The Rams' win can be accredited to placing first in 12 of the 16 events.

The first season-best was set when Kathleen McCleary raced a time of 10 minutes, 24.17 seconds, in the 1,000 Freestyle. Five events later, Sam Dole clocked the second record with a time of 23.92 in the 50 Free. Nicole Lynch wrapped up the season-bests after she hit a time of 2:22.16 in the 200 Breast.

Although the meet included diving scores, neither the Rams' nor the Rebels' diving teams were present at Moby Pool. Instead, both teams attended the Air Force Academy Invite at the Air Force Natatorium in Colorado Springs, Colo., where the scores from the Invite doubled as the scores for the Rams-Rebels dual meet. In regard to the dual competition, the events were split with the Rebels' Rachelle Zuccaro winning the 1-meter (244.95) and the Rams' Shayna Solomon taking first-place honors on the 3-meter board (249.05).

"They hung in there and got the points we needed for the dual meet," said diving coach Kevin Witt after concluding the two-day competition at Air Force Saturday.

The Rams wrap up the regular season Friday when they travel to Laramie, Wyo., for the Border War, which begins at 5 p.m. at Corbett Pool. The all-important conference meet is Feb. 24-27 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
