Ohio vs. Xavier -- January 29, 2010

CINCINNATI, Ohio, January 29. THE Bobcats won their sixth dual meet in a row Friday, defeating the host Xavier Musketeers by a final score of 152-106. The team set four pool records at Xavier's O'Conner Sports Center, with two coming in the 1000 Free, one in the 50 Free and the final coming in the 200 Free Relay. Four Bobcats set season-best times on the day as well. "I was pretty happy (about the team's performance)," said head coach Greg Werner. "That is probably the best that we've competed and performed on same-day travel all year. They did a very good job."

Ohio (8-2, 3-2 Mid-American Conference) leapt out to an early 13-4 lead after the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Rachel Heim (San Diego, Calif.), Elizabeth Bishop (Hales Corners, Wisc.), Kristen Witham (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and Annie Donovan (Findlay, Ohio) took first with a 1:50.15. The second event-the 1000 Free-is where the pool records began to get broken. In the first heat, Stacey Huber (Gainesville, Fla.) broke a pool record with her season-best 10:19.68. Just moments later in the second heat, this time was broken by teammate Amanda Traylor (Los Alamitos, Calif.) with a season-best 10:12.91. Traylor had a great race, beating her prior best time of the season by almost 30 seconds. "Stacy swam all by herself in the first heat and set the pool record," said Werner. "Amanda then came right back and beat it in the next heat, so that was a great way to start the individual events."

The 'Cats won the next seven events after the 1000 Free, as Huber, Katie Power (Ottawa, Ontario), Petra Chomicz (King's Lynn, England), Witham, Chelsey Bower (Bethel Park, Pa.), and Traylor all took first place honors. Bower's 50 Free time of 23.77 was not a season-best, but it was a pool record on Friday.

Two more season-best marks were set during the rest of the meet as Ashley Poitinger (Akron, Ohio) swam her fastest 100 Fly of the season with a 1:04.04 and freshman Bishop touched in her best 200 IM time of the season, a 2:19.49. The final event of the day was another record-breaker, as the 200 Free Relay team of Donovan, Bower, Funk and Heim swam a 1:37.90.

The 'Cats will next be in action when they go up against the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, January 30. First event is set to begin at one p.m.
