USA Diving Winter National Championships, World Cup Trials Set for Feb. 4-8 in Columbus, Ohio

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, January 28. EIGHT Olympians and five 2009 World Championships silver medalists will be among the field of the nation's best divers competing for 10 national titles and spots on the World Cup Team at the 2010 USA Diving Winter National Championships and World Cup Trials from February 4-8 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on The Ohio State University campus.

National titles will be awarded for both men and women in the individual 1-meter, 3-meter and 10-meter events as well as in the men's and women's synchronized 3-meter and 10-meter events. Additionally, the event will be used to select the divers who will compete in the individual events at the FINA World Cup, the top international diving meet of the year, from June 2-6 in Changzhou, China. Divers will also be selected for the A&T USA Diving Grand Prix, to take place May 6-9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Synchronized teams for both international competitions will be selected in April).

Three-time Olympian Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif./Austin, Texas), who recently turned 30, will be going for his 30th career national title (only Greg Louganis has won more) on the heels of a highly successful 2009 season in which he won two silver medals at the FINA World Championships to lead Team USA to its best showing at the World Championships in nearly two decades. Dumais won silver medals on 3-meter and synchronized 3-meter with partner Kristian Ipsen (Clayton, Calif.), who will also be competing at the winter nationals. Olympian Chris Colwill also will be diving on 3-meter at the winter nationals.

2008 Olympian David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) placed sixth individually on 10-meter at the 2009 World Championships for the best U.S. showing on that event since 1998. Boudia has won eight national titles on platform, with two individual titles and six with his long-time synchronized diving partner Thomas Finchum (Indianapolis, Ind.), with whom he won silver in synchro at the 2009 World Championships. Finchum, also a 2008 Olympian, has three individual titles to his name.

2008 Olympian Haley Ishimatsu (Seal Beach, Calif.), also a World Championships silver medalist in 2009, will compete on platform at the winter nationals.

Other 2008 Olympians who will be competing include women's 3-meter divers Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill./Minneapolis, Minn.), Christina Loukas (Riverwoods, Ill./Bloomington, Ind.), and Ariel Rittenhouse (Santa Cruz, Calif./Los Angeles). Rittenhouse and Loukas were the two U.S. competitors on the individual 3-meter event at the 2009 World Championships, with fifth- and eighth-place finishes respectively. However, Bryant scored a personal best to win the national title at the 2009 AT&T National Championships in August, with Loukas finishing second.

Other top divers participating include 2009 World Championships team members Terry Horner (Orlando, Fla.) and Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.), along with 2009 national champions Katie Bell (Columbus, Ohio), Abby Johnston (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Durham, N.C.) and Drew Livingston (The Woodlands, Texas/Austin, Texas).

The top two finishers on the individual 3-meter and 10-meter events who also meet degree of difficulty requirements will be named to the World Cup team. Scores from the quarterfinals will not carry over, but the semifinal and final rounds will added together to determine the final standings. The top four finishers (who meet DD requirements) on the individual events will be named to the AT&T Grand Prix team.

The synchronized teams for those events will be named at the World Cup synchro trials in Indianapolis on April 10-11.

Tickets for the Winter National Championships are $10/day for adults and $7/day for children 3-12 (children under 3 are free). All-session passes are $35 for adults and $25 for children. For tickets and information, call 800-331-0092 or visit www.columbussports.org or www.usadiving.org.
