Ohio State vs. Wright State

COLUMBUS, Ohio, January 10. THE 30th-ranked Ohio State women's swimming and diving team picked up its second win in 24 hours by defeating Wright State, 191.5-102.5, Sunday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The win, in the wake of a win Saturday over Toledo at Toledo, improved the nation's No. 30-ranked team's record to 4-0 on the season.

The Buckeyes won 13 of the 16 events Sunday, including the 200 medley relay to open the meet. Juniors Samantha Cheverton and Anita Beck led the Buckeyes with two wins apiece. Cheverton touched first in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke while Beck pulled off double wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events, respectively.

These Buckeyes were also victorious vs. Wright State Sunday:

Coming off the competition and travel Saturday, coach Bill Dorenkott limited the number of individual events for each of his swimmers. The teams' two coaches – Wright State is coached by Sion Brinn – also agreed to swim 50 and 100 races in place of the 100 and 200 distances for the breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke events.

"We were tired," Dorenkott said following the meet, "but that is not unexpected considering what we did Saturday. We also had a very difficult practice on Friday afternoon and then followed that with one of our hardest weight room sessions this year Friday evening."

Divers Chelsea Davis and Bianca Alvarez also had wins for the Buckeyes, off the 1- and 3-meter springboard events, respectively.

The Buckeyes do not compete again until Jan. 22, a dual meet at Michigan State.

For the men, Ohio State returned to competitive racing and diving for the first time in over a month and defeated Wright State Sunday, 205-82, to improve to 5-0 on the season. The swimming and diving team, ranked 12th nationally in the dual meet rankings, won all 14 events to cruise to the victory.

Senior co-captain Joel Elber, senior Daniel Malnik and sophomores Andrew Elliott and Lincoln Fahrbach won two races apiece to pace the Buckeyes. Elber sprinted to wins in the sprint freestyle events, winning the 50 in 20.71 and the 100 in 45.63. Malnik won both the 50 and 100 breaststroke events in 26.36 and 57.19, respectively.
