North Texas vs. UALR, Henderson State

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas, January 7. NORTH Texas Swimming & Diving head coach Joe Dykstra became the winningest coach in program history Wednesday night when the Mean Green swam past UALR and Henderson State in a double dual.

The pair of wins at the double dual brings Dykstra's career total to 18, eclipsing the mark of 17 left by his predecessor Mona Nyheim-Canales.

The Mean Green (6-3) swam well in their first competition since swimming at the Texas Invitational over a month ago, taking first place in all 11 events held.

"I am really excited about how we swam today," said Dykstra. "We had great energy and effort today and the times were better than I was expecting. It was a great start to this road trip."

Three North Texas swimmers finished in first place on three different occasions Wednesday night, senior Alicia Hale and sophomores Rosa Gentile and Hiliary Riedmann.

Hale won two individual events, the 100 free with a time of 52.19 seconds and the 200 free with a time of 1:53.76., along with one relay race, the 400 medley. Both Gentile and Riedmann were members of the 400 freestyle race along with junior Rosita Bado.

Gentile and Riedmann also teamed as two legs of the 400 freestyle relay team that took first.

Riedmann, a former Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week, won the individual 400 freestyle event with a time of 5:08.99. Gentile took first in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:14.42.

The Mean Green will make a trip across the state to face No. 18 Arkansas on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Arkansas Natatorium.
