Open Water Swim Star Arrested -- March 7, 2001
March 7. VENEZUELA'S DANNY CHOCRON, 27, a world-class open water swimmer who has won four U.S. national open water titles, was arrested last Friday on charges of sexual misconduct, according to an Associated Press story.
Lt. Paul Woolard of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office told reporters that Chocron, a part-time assistant coach at The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, was charged with two felony counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a 15-year-old boy at The Bolles School. The boy reportedly told police that he and Chocron engaged in sexual acts at Chocron's residence.
Arrested at his home on Friday, Chocron was released from Duval County Jail yesterday on $250,000 bail. Chocron, a former honor student and swim team standout at Florida State University, has been placed on leave by The Bolles School.
