Wisconsin-Milwaukee Signs Two

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin, November 26. UNIVERSITY of Wisconsin-Milwaukee head men's swimming coach Erica Janssen announced the signing of two high school seniors to National Letters of Intent today.

Jeffrey Maxwell of Milton, Wis., and Christopher Jenkyns of Hartland, Wis., were added during the early signing period by Milwaukee and will compete for the UWM men's swimming team next season.

Maxwell, a senior at Milton High School, will look to help his team defend its first Badger South Conference crown since 1991. He led his team to the title a year ago by winning the 200 IM and 100 butterfly. An all-conference selection, Maxwell won the state title in the 500 freestyle as a sophomore and missed back-to-back championships by 23-hundredths of a second as a junior.

"Jeff is a local talent with tons of versatility," Janssen said. "He will swim middle-distance freestyle, backstroke, butterfly and IM groups. I am looking forward to having Jeff join Milwaukee with great potential as a collegiate swimmer. I know that Jeff is an untapped talent and I'm looking forward to adding his versatility to the team."

Jenkyns is a senior at Arrowhead High School, helping lead the team to a fourth place finish at state as a junior, qualifying at the state meet in four different events. In addition, he has earned all-conference honors in the 100 backstroke, 500 freestyle and with two relay teams, helping the Warhawks to a Greater Metro Conference crown.

"Chris will swim in the distance-freestyle, middle-distance freestyle and backstroke events at UWM," Janssen said. "He is coming off an incredible summer season achieving USA Short Course National times and Junior National times. With the departure of [senior] Jeremy Waldhart, we will be looking to Chris to step up and lead the backstroke events along with our current excellent backstroke group. He will have great training partners and will excel in the Horizon League. Chris had many collegiate opportunities and I'm extremely excited about his choice to swim for Milwaukee."
