Swimmers Choice Award Poll Up For Voting -- November 12, 2009

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 12. FOR the third year in a row, Swimming World Magazine is offering its users the chance to vote for the Swimmers Choice World Male and Female Swimmer of the Year awards.

These awards are not the actual Swimming World Magazine World Swimmers of the Year announced in our December issue each year, but are a way to allow our users the chance to make their voices heard in the vote.

A winner will be announced for each award on Nov. 29. Make your vote count at our homepage at www.SwimmingWorldMagazine.com in the right column.

November 12, 2009 Where's Dana Vollmer on the list? I think Swimmer of the Year should take into account the whole year and I don't think any American female had a better year than Dana. Her NCAAs combined with her World Champ Trials and World Champs performance was spectacular. Her and Rebecca Soni were by far the most consistent females at the top of their game for American swimming this year.

November 12, 2009 Since SCY events are only a US-based concept, they are not included in the balloting process for World/Regional Swimmers of the Year.

November 12, 2009 I disagree with that. Doing so greatly limits the number of swims an American swimmer has done in a year compared to the number of swims an international swimmer has done. Is this supposed to be best meters swimmer of the year? Best meet? Best performance? ... or is it Best Swimmer of the Year, thus all swims should be taken into account.

Based on the list of names, besides Hardy I'd say the poll is best World Champs performer, otherwise I wouldn't include Kukors as she had a very unimpressive year besides her AMAZING performances at Worlds. I think she absolutely had the best single swim of the year, but remember she didn't even perform well enough at World Champ Trials to make the team in that event. She went as a relay only swimmer and had the gift of her life from Pelton.
