Busy Few Days in Swimming World College Recruit Rankings System

PHOENIX, Arizona, November 10. IT's been a busy last few days in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings, as recruits around the nation have made their college choices known via the system.

Stanford has had a strong couple of days. Five stars Kirstie Chen and Mitch Stoehr both pledged to be part of the Cardinal in the Class of 2010.

Chen, who swims for La Mirada Armada and preps at Whitney High, owns long course senior national cuts in the 200-meter back (2:18.09), 100-meter fly (1:02.41), 200-meter fly (2:12.76), 200-meter IM (2:16.31) and 400-meter IM (4:46.31). She also would have qualified to compete in the 2009 NCAA Division I Championships in the 400-yard IM (4:12.21).

Stoehr, who swim for Lake Forest and preps at Lake Forest High, has long course senior national cuts in the 100-meter free (50.94) and 200-meter free (1:52.38). He also owns NCAA Division I B cuts in the 100-yard free (44.37) and 200-yard free (1:37.58).

Chen and Stoehr join a Stanford class that now numbers six five stars.

Five star Lauren Solernou, who swims for Cheshire YMCA and preps at Sacred Heart High, gives the University of Tennessee Lady Vols a highly-ranked backstroker for the Class of 2010. Solernou has long course senior national cuts in the 100-meter back (1:03.12) and 200-meter back (2:16.39). She also has an NCAA DI B cut in the 100-yard back (54.61). She joins five star Mary Kate McNeilis and three star Courtney Ciesielski as future Lady Vols.

California picked up a commitment from five star Sam Metz. Metz, who swims for New Trier and preps at New Trier Township High, has long course senior national cuts in the 400-meter free (3:56.93), 100-meter breast (1:04.49), 200-meter breast (2:18.50), 200-meter IM (2:03.79) and 400-meter IM (4:26.37). Metz joins a group of six five stars that have committed to be Golden Bears in the Class of 2010.

Five star Zane Grothe and four star Siena DeVenuto added to an already deep class headed to Auburn in 2010.

Grothe, who swims for Boulder City Henderson and preps at Boulder City High, has long course senior national cuts in the 400-meter free (4:00.98) and 1500-meter free (15:36.54). DeVenuto, who swims and preps at Pine Crest, would have qualified for the 1650-yard free (16:18.27) at last year's NCAA Championships.

The pair moved Auburn's overall class to 10 five stars, and a four star all led by six star Dagny Knutson.

Five star Charles Moore decided to be a Texas Longhorn. Moore, who swims for Cy-Fair and preps at Jersey Village High, owns long course senior national cuts in the 50-meter free (23.48) and 100-meter free (51.21). He joins a Texas class that currently has four five stars, two four stars and a three star.

Five star Devan Terry gave Alabama its highest-ranked recruit thus far with his pledge. Terry has long course senior national cuts in the 100-meter breast (1:05.20) and 200-meter breast (2:22.04). Terry swims for Lakeside and preps at Louisville Male High. He joins an Alabama class of two four stars, a three star and a two star.

Five star Megan Hawthorne, who swims for Rattler Swim Club and preps at Chaminade College Prep, committed to Southern California. Hawthorne has long course senior national cuts in the 200-meter free (2:02.68), 200-meter breast (2:34.32), 200-meter IM (2:16.56) and 400-meter IM (4:49.77). She also has B cuts in the 500-yard free (4:49.46), 200-yard breast (2:16.64), 200-yard IM (2:00.86) and 400-yard IM (4:14.61). Hawthorne joins a great class at USC that includes six five stars and six star Kasey Carlson.

Four star Michael Thomas, who swims for North Baltimore and preps at Calvert Hall College High, is headed to Florida State. Thomas has a long course senior national cut in the 400-meter IM (4:30.86). Florida State currently has a class made up of three five stars, two four stars and a three star.

Three star Hallie Stupp, who swims for Parkway and preps at MICDS, is headed to Arizona. She is the second three star in a class that includes seven five stars and a four star as well.

Three star Devon Meeks, who swims for Farmington Tigersharks and preps at Rosemount High, committed to Iowa.

Three star J.T. Stilley, who swims for SwimMAC and preps at North Mecklenburg, pledged to North Carolina adding another recruit to a deep class that includes six five stars, a four star and two three stars.

One star Kendall Farnham committed to Dartmouth. Farnham joins a three star and two two stars headed to Dartmouth in the Class of 2010.
