Tulane vs. LSU

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, October 30. THE LSU women's swimming and diving team claimed 13 of 16 events against Tulane Friday en route to its first victory of the season, 175-117, in the LSU Natatorium.

The Lady Tigers (1-2, 0-2 SEC) received two wins apiece from four athletes as Rebecca St. Germain, Jane Trepp, Kannon Betzen and Mary Beck all emerged victorious twice in individual competition. The Green Wave fell to 0-3 with the loss.

"I thought we had a solid meet, especially considering most of our swimmers swam their off events," LSU assistant coach Jessica Botzum said. "Our captains, Jane Trepp and Kannon Betzen swam well today, and I thought we had some nice efforts from a number of our freshmen."

St. Germain continues to impress in her first collegiate season as the freshman diver recorded career highs and school all-time top-10 marks in both the one-meter and three-meter springboard events. The San Antonio, Texas, native's winning score of 310.95 in the one-meter is the fifth-best in program history, and her mark of 313.43 in the three-meter moved her into eighth all-time at LSU.

Trepp swam to victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.36 seconds and captured first-place in the 200 breaststroke (2:25.23). Betzen registered victories in both the 100 and 200 free with times of 51.10 and 1:52.90, respectively, while Beck finished on top in both the 100 breast (1:06.03) and 100 butterfly (57.08).

In addition, junior Brooke Barnett, sophomore Samantha Goates and freshmen Sally Wood and Audrey Lawson recorded wins. Barnett won the 1000 free with a season best of 10:19.30, and Goates took first in the 100 backstroke. Wood captured the victory in the 200 individual medley, while Lawson touched the wall first in the 200 fly.

Freshman diver Elle Schmidt also had a solid effort, qualifying for the NCAA Zone Diving Regional. The Mansfield, Ohio, product tallied runner-up scores of 265.50 and 292.20 in the one-meter and three-meter, respectively.

The Lady Tigers wrapped up the meet with a victory in the 400 free relay. The foursome of Beck, Trepp, Amanda Kendall and Betzen collected the win with a 3:27.85 clocking.

The LSU men's and women's teams will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on the Crimson Tide on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. (CT). The teams will face Florida State in Tallahassee, Fla., on the following day, Nov. 7.
