Rowdy Gaines Classic Features Plenty of FINA Masters World Records, Even By Rowdy Himself -- October 22, 2009

ORLANDO, Florida, October 22. OVER the past weekend, the Rowdy Gaines Classic featured several FINA Masters World Records over short course meters, including a few by the man himself.

Gaines, 50, beat the men's 50-54 100 free standard with a sterling time of 51.61. The effort crushed the previous record of 54.29 set by Brent Barnes earlier this year. Bob Bugg, 52, also cleared the previous mark with a 53.87. Gaines claimed another record, this time with a 23.38 in the 50 free. That time eclipsed the 23.97 set by Barnes in April of this year.

Bugg downed the men's 50-54 200 free global mark with a time of 1:56.75. The swim cleared Jim McConica's 2000 record of 1:58.37.

Meanwhile, David Quiggin, 65, lowered the men's 65-69 200 free record with a time of 2:15.39. He wiped out the 2:16.27 set by Keefe Lodwig in 2008. Quiggin also took down another Lodwig record with a 59.56 in the 100 free. That readout cleared Lodwig's 2008 mark of 59.60. Edilson Silva, 39, clipped the record in the men's 35-39 50 back with a 25.72. That performance nipped the 25.86 set by Michael Ross in 2004.

In relays, the Gold Coast Masters beat the men's 240-279 200 free relay with a time of 1:49.69. That swim beat the 1:49.78 also set by the Gold Coast Masters back in 2007.
