Marc Christian Named Graduate Assistant Coach for Delaware

NEWARK, Delaware, October 14. MARC E. Christian, a Kenyon College graduate, will begin his first season as a graduate assistant coach for the University of Delaware men's and women's swimming and diving teams during the 2009-10 season.

Christian joins a staff consisting of head coach John Hayman, assistant coach Rory Coleman, and diving coach Peter Metrinko.

A native of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, Christian will join the UD swim program while pursuing a master's degree in higher education administration at Delaware. Christian graduated from Kenyon College with degrees in political science and history and was president of the Student Athlete Association.

Christian enjoyed a successful four-year career at Kenyon College. He was an NCAA National Qualifier in 2006, 2007 and 2008. At the NCAA Championships, Christian was named an All-American nine-times, was a member of three NCAA Championship teams, and captured five NCAA relay titles.

During his senior year, he placed eighth in the 50-yard freestyle. In addition, he served on the victorious 200- and 400-freestyle relay teams that helped Kenyon win its 29th consecutive NCAA team championship.

From 2005-08, Christian was a finalist in 15 events at the North Coast Athletic Conference title meet and served as a member of four NCAC Conference championship teams.

Christian was also a two-time recipient of the Joseph S. O'Daniel Memorial Coach's Award, given annually by the coach to a swimmer who best demonstrates, throughout the season, the true spirit of Kenyon swimming. In addition, Christian was named the Division III Conference winner of the NCAA Sportsmanship Award.

Over the last three years, Christian has gained coaching experience at the Kenyon College and Carthage College Total Performance Swim Camps and the Bates College Swim Camp.
