Two More Canadian Relays Fall at Canada Summer Games -- August 29, 2009

CHARLOTTETOWN, Canada, August 29. B.C., and Ontario broke the Canadian short course records in the men's and women's 4X50 meter medley relays on Thursday in swimming action at the Canada Summer Games.

In the men's 4X50 medley relay, B.C., took the gold in one minute and 38.05 seconds eclipsing the previous national mark of 1:38.09 set by the UBC Dolphins this past March at the Spring Nationals in Toronto. The B.C., swimmers were Nicholas Sinclair of Victoria, Michael Cai of New Westminster, Andre Kudaba of Port Coquitlam and Charlie Tapp of Langley.

‘'For us it was really about getting the gold tonight,'' Kudaba told Swimming Canada. ‘'We weren't really thinking about the record. Nicholas had a great opening leg and that relay pumped us up and set the tone for the rest of the race. We all had really great splits.''

In the women's 4X50 medley relay, Ontario finished first in 1:50.18 to smash the previous national mark of 1:51.71 set by Montreal's Club CAMO, also at Spring Nationals. The Ontario swimmers were Danielle Carty of Caledonia, Tera Van Beilen of Oakville, Paige Miller of Caledon and Michelle Williams of Toronto.

Three of the four B.C., men's relay members had won gold earlier in the evening. Cai collected his fourth individual gold with a victory in the 100 breaststroke, Sinclair won the 200 backstroke and Kudaba took the 100 butterfly. Hassaan Abdel-Khalik of Mississauga, Ont., won the 200 freestyle.
