Virginia's Grimes and Dykehouse Named ACC Swimmers of the Week -- February 6, 2001

GREENSBORO, N.C., Feb. 6. UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA senior Jamie Grimes (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and freshman Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) have been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference men's and women's Swimmers of the Week, respectively, for their performances in UVa's dual meet victories against Maryland on Saturday, February 3.

Grimes shares the men's ACC award with North Carolina's Chris Helin.

Grimes helped lead the Cavaliers to a 162.5-78.5 win at Maryland in his final collegiate dual meet. Grimes set a new Campus Recreation Center Natatorium pool record as well as a personal record in winning the
1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:06.08. His time ranks third on Virginia's all-time top times list in the 1000 free. Grimes also swam the 500-yard freestyle, finishing second (4:29.77) behind teammate Ian Prichard.

Dykehouse won two individual events in the Cavaliers' 137-106 win over Maryland. Dykehouse won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:49.94 and took first in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:00.68. Her time in the 200-yard butterfly was nearly a second better than her personal best and moved her into third place on Virginia's all-time top times list for the 200 fly. The time also bettered the NCAA "B" qualifying standard.

Dykehouse also swam a leg on the Cavaliers' first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team, which won in a season-best time of 3:26.74.

The 11th-ranked Virginia men conclude the dual meet portion of their schedule with an 8-1 overall record and a 5-0 mark in the ACC. The Cavaliers return to action February 22-24 when they host the ACC Men's
Swimming and Diving Championship at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.

Prelims begin each day at 11:00 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.

The 12th-ranked Cavalier women complete their dual meet schedule with a 7-1 overall record and a 4-1 mark in the ACC. Virginia returns to action February 15-17 when it hosts the ACC Women's Swimming and Diving
Championship at the AFC. Prelims begin each day at 11:00 a.m. and finals commence at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free.
