Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, Yulia Banech Named Outstanding Swimmers at Israeli Summer Nationals; Shapira Bar-Or Breaks Longest Standing Israeli Record

NATANIA, Israel, August 8. NIMROD Shapira Bar-Or and Yulia Banech were named the top swimmers of the Israeli summer national meet held at the Wingate Institute.

Shapira Bar-Or won four gold medals in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 free along with a national record. Banech claimed golds in the 50 and 100 breast, and had a silver along with two national records by the end of the meet.

On the final day of swimming, Shapira Bar-Or clocked a 22.75 in the men's 50 free. That performance broke a 14-year-old record of 22.79 set by Yoav Bruck back in 1995 – the last Israeli record standing from before the turn of the millennium.

In the men's 100 fly, Alon Mandel clocked a 52.56 during the consolation final to lower his national record of 52.99 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Amit Ivry stopped the clock in 58.21 in the women's 100 fly, which broke her Israeli record of 59.02 set July 2008.
