High School Swimmers Of The Year Awards Headline August Issue Of Swimming World Magazine -- August 1, 2009
PHOENIX, Arizona, August 1. DAGNY Knutson, Minot High School in North Dakota, and Tom Shields, Edison High School in Huntington Beach, California, have been selected as Swimming World Magazine's High School Female and Male Swimmers of the Year for the 2008-09 season.
Knutson has made her mark not only on the high school front, but on the international swim stage as well. Winning the honor of Female High School Swimmer of the Year came as a direct result of her amazing performances at the North Dakota High School Championships where she established three new public high school records.
Tom Shields secured the title as Male High School Swimmer of the Year by virtue of his becoming the fastest high school swimmer ever in the 200 freestyle.

August 13, 2009 I know the Dagny Knutson had a fantastic year, but Elizabeth Beisel swam in the Olympics and medaled in the World Championships (and lives in a town which does not have a swimming pool).
I vote for her as High School Swimmer of the Year. Submitted by: flutterby
August 13, 2009 You have to compete in high school events and put up strong times wearing a high school cap to be considered for this award. The same philosophy behind national high school records (not necessarily the fastest times swum by high school age swimmers) is at the core of the award - and the national team title awarded in September.
Thanks for the post though. We love Elizabeth here! We'd have her on the Morning Swim Show every day if we could! Submitted by: Jason Marsteller
August 17, 2009 Jason, how will TYM determine the "star ratings" this year? To make a similar comparison with no bodysuits, one may need to go back to 2004 NCAA Div-1 finals...It'll be an interesting year.. Submitted by: Susan B_1987
