FINA World Championships, Synchronized Swimming: Russia Wins Duet Technical Title

ROME, Italy, July 21. RUSSIA rolled to another gold medal during synchronized swimming, this time in the duet technical finale at the FINA World Championships.

Anastasia Davydova and Svetlana Romashina tallied 98.667 points, with 49.5 from overall impression and 49.167 from execution, to capture the gold medal in the duet technical competition.

Spain's Andrea Fuentes and Gemma Mengual took silver with 97.333 points. The duo earned 48.833 points from overall impression and 48.5 from execution.

Meanwhile, China's Jiang Tingting and Jiang Wenwen finished with bronze after collecting 95.667 points. The Chinese garnered 48.167 points from overall impression and 47.5 from execution.

Notably, the U.S. tandem of Meghan Kinney and Jillian Penner finished 12th with 88.5 points. The pair totaled 44.667 points in overall impression and 43.833 points in execution.

Russia elected not to compete in the free combination preliminary round. That left the door open for Spain's team of Clara Basiana, Alba Cabello, Ona Carbonell, Raquel Correll, Margalida Crespi, Fuentes, Thais Henriquez, Paula Klamburg, Gisela Moron and Irina Rodriguez to lead the early round with 97.5 points. The team combined 48.833 points from technical merit with 48.667 points for artistic impression as choreography came into play during the more freeform combination events.
