INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, July 10. BLUEFISH's Elizabeth Beisel used a superior final 50 meters to capture the women's 200 back title. The winner of the 400 IM gold medal last night, Beisel tracked down Wisconsin's Maggie Meyer for the triumph.

"That has been my main strategy the past few years," Beisel said. "There isn't much longer until Worlds starts. I just have to re-taper, and still have a great team coming to Rome. I'm just excited to be part of it."

Beisel concluded the race with a 2:08.80 for the win, while North Baltimore's Elizabeth Pelton finished second in 2:09.19 to break her personal best of 2:09.72 set during prelims. American-record holder Margaret Hoelzer of KING rounded out the top three with a 2:09.69.

Meyer led through the first 150 meters with splits of 30.04, 1:02.75 and 1:36.33, but faded to fourth down the stretch with a 2:10.08. Her first 50 was under Hoelzer's American-record pace. Meyer's time nearly had her breaking right through the 2:10 barrier with a 2:11.80 personal best from prelims.

July 10, 2009 Hoelzer another loyal fool in a LZR, Beisel smart child in Jaked.

July 10, 2009 I'm as against the suits as most people, but come on, you can't play the suit card here. Both woman were SIGNIFICANTLY faster last year, and both in LZRs also.

July 10, 2009 True but at only .8 ahead of Hoelzer, Beisel's Jaked could conceivably be the difference over 200 meters.

July 10, 2009 Whatever, Hoelzer went 2.06 last year in a LZR, if she can only manage 3.6 secs slower now, she won't be anywhere the medals in Rome

July 10, 2009 Well I'm sorry we won't get a chance to see Heolzer try, as she has alot of international experience and Pelton does only in juniors; she'll have a long week physically and mentally.

I don't know why Beisel was so far off her best times even with a Jaked, and looking so tired. Maybe she took some time off after Beijing. But at least she's got lots of international experience herself.

Lemme get this straight, you think she's tired now because she took some time off after Beijing...? Interesting

July 11, 2009 I'm just saying; she obviously wasn't in the same shape as last year, alot of them weren't this summer. For some like Phelps, it was because he took off some time after Beijing and didn't have the same level of aerobic base. Or is it anaerobic base? Anyway, yeah. It takes time to get in shape. time out of the pool matters, that's why Phelps trained every day including Christmas before Beijing. For others like Hoff, it was illness and a question of overtraining. I don't know what Beisel's situation was, just wondering.
