Croatian Championships: Niksa Roki, Roko Simunic Set National Records -- July 6, 2009

RIJEKA, Croatia, July 6. THE final night of swimming at the Croatian Championships featured a few more national records being rewritten.

Niksa Roki cleared 2:01 in the men's 200 IM to set the national record with a 2:00.91. The performance beat Sasa Impric's standard of 2:01.83 set last year. Impric placed second in 2:02.21, while Fran Krznaric snared third in 2:07.60.

In the men's 50 back semifinals, Roko Simunic posted a time of 25.62 to clear Gordan Kozulj's national record of 25.62 set last year. Ante Cvitkovic and Kozulj tied for the men's 50 back title with matching 26.28s. Simunic placed third in 26.36 after setting the national record in prelims.


In other finals action, Matea Peteh won the women's 200 free in 2:04.54. Petra Radovic (2:06.13) and Zrinka Korac (2:09.94) claimed second and third. Dominik Straga followed in the men's 200 free with a winning time of 1:48.82. Mario Delac (1:52.09) and Ante Zoricic (1:53.49) touched second and third.

Nikolina Sabo topped the women's 200 IM in 2:24.89 with Meri Cizmar (2:29.31) and Kataraina Rados (2:32.12) completing the top three. Gabrijela Korac claimed the women's 200 breast in 2:43.67, while Lana Dragojevic (2:45.97) and Ana Matkovic (2:46.16) rounded out the podium. Luka Skugor captured the men's 200 breast in 2:17.48 with Matej Maras (2:20.81) and Ivan Bilic (2:22.08) snatching second and third.

Zeljana Knezevic earned the women's 100 fly title in 1:02.88, while Marijela Brajevic (1:04.70) and Zrinka Korac (1:05.18) placed second and third. Alexei Puninski cruised to victory in the men's 100 fly with a 52.77. Straga (53.38) and Boris Loncaric (53.84) pocketed second and third.

Radovic garnered the women's 800 free crown in 9:01.27 with Ivana Pijanovic (9:03.88) and Karla Sitic (9:09.29) taking second and third. Ivan Cizmar touched out Marko Duric, 8:40.89 to 8:40.99, for the men's 800 free title. Josip Soldo claimed third in 8:47.89.

Sanja Jovanovic touched first in the women's 50 back with a winning time of 28.20, while Lidija Franic took second in 28.61. Matea Samardzic wound up third in 30.03.
