World University Games, Water Polo: Day Three Prelims Complete

BELGRADE, Serbia, July 4. THE third day of competition featured preliminary matches for both the men and women in water polo at the World University Games held in Belgrade.

Men
Croatia crushed Mexico, 19-8, in the first match of the day. Ivan Bebic led the way with four goals, while Croatia went 19-for-38 from the field. Gonzalo Mejia Berumen and Jorge Perez each tallied two goals for Mexico, which connected on 8 of 15 shots.

Greece rolled over Canada, 12-5. Ioannis Kocheilas connected on four goals to lead a 12-for-29 effort from Greece. John Kaukinen tallied two goals for Canada, which went 5-or-16.

Australia pounced on Montenegro, 16-6. Richard Campbell and Jarrod Gilchrist each tallied four goals for the Aussies, which went 16-for-28 from the field. Darko Brguljan, Filip Klikovac and Zeljko Doncic each notched two goals for Montenegro, which put up a 6-for-25 effort.

Russia obliterated China, 24-2, in the biggest defeat of the day. Konstantin Stepanyuk and Viktor Vishnyakov each hit the back of the net five times, while Russia went 24-for-39 from the field. Zhang Minjue and Lu Jun accounted for China's two goals, as the team went 2-for-16.

Italy downed Spain, 9-4. Paride Saccoia notched a hat trick for Italy, which went 9-for-28. Daniel Hernandez Murillo topped Spain with two goals, while the team went 4-for-33.

The United States smashed Poland, 16-3. Andrew Colin Mello was a perfect 3-for-3, while teammate Matthew Sagehorn went 3-for-6 as both gave the U.S. a hat trick. The U.S. went 16-for-28, while Poland accounted for only a 3-for-28 effort. Tomasz Rozycki notched two of those goals.

Hungary stopped Japan, 12-6. Marton Toth totaled four goals for Hungary, which connected on 12 of 26 shots. Yusuke Shimizu led the way for Japan with two goals, which converted on 6 of 20 shots.

Serbia demolished France, 12-3, to conclude the third day of competition. Milos Cuk and Petar Filipovic each notched a hat trick while Serbia went 12-for-29. Romain Harrissart posted two goals for France, which converted on 3 of 23 shots.

Women
China smashed Italy, 20-4. Sun Yu Jun totaled a match-high five goals, while Ma Huan Huan and Qiao Lei Ying each notched four goals. China went an astounding 20-for-29 from the field. Silvia Motta topped Italy with two goals, which converted on only 4 of 29 shots.

Canada doubled up Japan, 10-5. Stephanie Valin, Jenna Crook and Monika Eggens each notched two goals for Canada, which went 10-for-22. Moe Tsumori topped Japan with two goals en route to a 5-for-26 team effort.

Hungary clipped Australia, 11-10. Anett Gyore tallied a hat trick for Hungary, which went 11-for-32 from the field. Rowena Webster also totaled three goals for Australia, which went 10-for-27.

Russia pounded Serbia, 18-4, in the final women's match of the day. Alexandra Antonova and Yulia Buravkova each tallied three goals for Russia, which converted on 18 of 32 shots. Ivana Corovic turned in three goals for Serbia, which went 4-for-25 from the field.
