Hathaway Named ACC Swimmer of the Week -- January 22, 2001

Jan. 22. NORTH Carolina's Katie Hathaway
garnered the ACC Swimmer of the Week honors after a stellar performance last week, leading #9 North Carolina to a 175-125 win over #12 Virginia last Saturday in Charlottesville, Va. It was Virginia's first dual meet loss since it lost to Carolina in 1998. The win broke a 25-match winning streak for UVA.

Hathaway, a junior from Matthews, N.C., won three individual events and swam on a winning relay team. She
started the meet by swimming the breaststroke leg on the 200-yard medley relay team, which won in a time of 1:43.39. Hathaway went on to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.85 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:16.30. She also won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:02.63.

This is the second Swimmer of the Week honor for Hathaway. zShe also won the award on November 20.

UNC is now 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the ACC. The Tar Heels play host to #16 Maryland on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Koury Natatorium.
