NCAA Men's Division I Championships: Georgia's Troyden Prinsloo Claims 1650 Free Title -- March 28, 2009

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 28. TROYDEN Prinsloo kept the 1650-yard free title in the Georgia family with a strong time to start the final night of action at the meet.

Prinsloo clocked a 14:30.91, which is the ninth-fastest of all time. He already owns a 14:28.06 that makes him the fifth-best ever.


The win gave the Bulldogs their third win in the event – all of which have happened in the last four years. Sebastien Rouault won the other two titles in 2006 and 2008.

Stanford's Chad La Tourette placed second in 14:33.55, which moved him up to eighth all time.

Washington's Scott Spansail rounded out the top three in 14:34.95 to become the 11th-best ever.

Texas' Michael Klueh also moved higher in the top 15 with a fourth-place 14:34.96. The effort vaulted him into 12th all time.

Texas held the team lead with 377 points after the event, while Auburn stood second with 342 points. Stanford (330.5), California (239) and Arizona (233) completed out the top five.
