NCAA Women's Division I Championships: Elaine Breeden of Stanford Recaptures 200 Fly Title With Meet Record -- March 21, 2009

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 21. STANFORD's Elaine Breeden reclaimed her 2007 title in the women's 200-yard fly after it resided in Saori Haruguchi's hands in Oregon State.
Breeden, who owns the American and NCAA record with a 1:49.92, raced to the win in 1:50.98. The performance beat Breeden's meet record set during prelims with a 1:51.85.
The win pushed Stanford's NCAA leading total for 200 fly wins to nine. Beyond Breeden's win in 2007, Janel Jorgensen (1990, 1993), Summer Sanders (1991, 1992), Misty Hyman (1998, 2001) and Shelly Ripple (2002) are former winners for the Cardinal.
Texas' Kathleen Hersey placed second in 1:51.18, which is the third-fastest time ever. USC's Katinka Hosszu completed the top three with a 1:53.45.
California made a huge jump into the lead with 371.5 points, while Georgia stands just a point behind with 370.5 points. Arizona stood a close third with 363 points, while Stanford (275.5) and Auburn (253.5) held fourth and fifth.
