COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 20. IN an exciting race primarily because no one was an odds-on favorite after Arizona drew a disqualification this morning, the roof blew off the building as Georgia pulled off the triumph in the women's 200-yard medley relay.

The foursome of Kristen Shickora, Kelly McNichols, Lisa Caprioglio and Anne-marie Botek touched out Wisconsin's Maggie Meyer, Ashley Wanland, Christine Zwiegers and Rebecca Thompson, 1:36.45 to 1:36.53.

Tennessee's Jenny Connolly, Jamie Saffer, Tricia Weaner and Michelle King were also in the battle with a 1:36.82 for third, while Auburn's Rachel Goh, Micah Lawrence, Alana Dillette and Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace placed fourth in 1:36.85. LSU's Monica McJunkin, Jane Trepp, Katie Gilmore and Katherine Noland also had a shot with a fifth-place 1:36.88.

The win was Georgia's third in event history as the Bulldogs won back-to-back crowns in 2005 and 2006.

Georgia took a big lead with 173 points, while California stood second with 152 points. Arizona kept its day-one total with 141.5 points, while Auburn (121.5) and Stanford (117) were fourth and fifth.
