NCAA Women's Division I Championships: Houston's Anastasia Pozdniakova Wins One-Meter Diving -- March 19, 2009

COLLEGE STATION, Texas, March 19. HOUSTON's Anastasia Pozdniakova completed the six-round battle for the one-meter diving title with the top tally during the NCAA Championships.
Pozdniakova claimed the title with 351.15, while Indiana's Christina Loukas finished runner-up with a second-place 339.80. Defending champion Emma Friesen of Hawaii took third with 331.35 points.
The win is Houston's third in the event, which puts the behind Florida and SMU, with three, each for the NCAA lead. Yuliya Pakhalina claimed the previous two titles for Houston in 2001 and 2003.
The diving event was delayed by about 20 minutes due to a facility issue. At one point, diving coaches had complained that the diving well was filled with too much water. When facility management began to lower the level, the valve broke. This led to the management having to continue to fill the diving well with water to keep it high enough. The part will be replaced tonight, according to Texas A&M media relations personnel.
