WIEN, Austria, February 26. THE Austrians have been active over the past week with a long course sprint meet on Feb. 23 along with its long course national championships being held in Wien this weekend.
At the sprint meeat, Markus Rogan continued his backstroke excellence by blasting his Austrian record in the men's 50 back.
Rogan posted a stellar time of 24.53 to destroy his previous record of 26.12 set last year in Bangkok. The performance nearly clipped Liam Tancock's European record of 24.47 and Randall Bal's world record of 24.33.
In swims from the first day of the long course national meet, Jordis Steinegger won the women's 400 IM in 4:46.16, while Dinko Jukic took the men's 400 IM in 4:17.94. Nina Dittrich claimed the women's 800 free with an 8:45.05, while David Brandl captured the men's 1500 free in 15:18.85.

February 26, 2009 Rogan isn't doing the 200 Back anymore. In fact, he was going to retire after Beijing, but he decided to stay on one more year since he trains in Italy. I guess the focus on sprints is paying off! I'm interested to see what he does in the 100! Submitted by: SwimDER94
