Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference -- February 16, 2009

LONG BEACH, California, February 16. THE CMS men and women both finished first at the SCIAC Championships on Saturday night. The women scored 1004.5 points and the men scored 932.5. This was the women's 11th overall title and seventh in a row while the men won their 29th overall title and second straight. Katie Bilotti (FR, Orinda) was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the meet. She won the 50 Free, 100 Fly and 100 Back and was on the winning 200 Free and Medley Relay and 400 Free and Medley Relay.

The Athenas swept the first two events on the final day. Carliann Brashier (SO, Highlands Ranch, CO), Whitney Dawson (FR, Portland, OR) and Danielle Peebles (SR, La Mesa) opened Saturday's evening session with a one-two-three finish in the 1650 Freestyle. Brashier's time of 17:14.34 was a meet record and an NCAA 'A' qualifier. Tessa Dover (SO, San Luis Obispo), Amy Tresenrider (FR, Sebastopol) and Jenni Rinker (SO, Eagle River, AK) followed with a one-two-three of their own in the 200 Backstroke. Emma Jones (FR, Eugene, OR) won the 100 Freestyle with a CMS and SCIAC record time of 52.05. Annie Perizzolo (SO, Aurora, CO) won the 200 Breaststroke and swam 2:19.60 in the prelims which was an NCAA 'A' qualifier. CMS capped off their victory with a win in the 400 Freestyle Relay. Peebles, Bilotti , Jordan Stewart (SR, Minnetonka, MN) and Jones won by over four seconds with a time of 3:32.47. NCAA 'B' performances on day three included Dawson and Peebles in the 1650, Dover and Tresenrider in the 200 Back, Jones in the 100 Free as well as the 400 Free Relay.

The Stags began with a third in the 1650 by Brant Kersten (FR, Bellevue, WA). Nick Ostreim (SO, Phoenix, AZ) and Austin Hallett (FR, Bainbridge Island, WA) went one-three in the 200 Backstroke. John Sloat (SR, Lafayette) was third in the 100 Freestyle. Vincent Pai (FR, Walnut) and Ryan Toohey (SR, Rocklin) went one-two in the 200 Breaststroke. Pai set the SCIAC meet record with an NCAA 'A' qualifying time of 2:02.68. Brendan Huss (FR, Omaha, NE) finished second in the 200 Butterfly. CMS finished second in the 400 Freestyle Relay with a team of Hallett, Stephen Andron (JR, Lafayette), Ryan Kristensen (SO, Saugus) and Sloat. NCAA 'B' Performances were turned in by Ostreim and Hallett in the 200 Back, Toohey in the 200 Breast and by the 400 Free Relay.
