CeraVe Invitational: Day Two Age Group -- January 10, 2009

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey, January 10. AGE groupers took center stage during the afternoon of the second day of swimming at the CeraVe Invitational. Several meet records took a fall during the meet hosted by the Berkeley Aquatic Club on the campus of Rutgers University.


Girls 11-12 50 free
Elite Swim Club's Regan Kology (29.07), 12, won the event while Ridgewood YMCA's Sara Nestrowitz (29.30), 12, and Michelle Kim (29.59), 12, placed second and third, respectively. Westchester Marlins' Michelle Kim (29.87), 12, placed fourth, making all top four swimmers zone qualifiers.

Boys 11-12 50 free
John Om, 12, from Ridgewood YMCA won with a time of 27.70 during Saturday's finals. Second place went to Ryan Nicholson, 12, from Lansing Cats (28.25) and third place to Alex Smith, 12, from Lansing Cats with a time of 28.68. Eric Wang, 12, from Long Island Aquatic Club also broke 30 seconds in 29.88.

Girls 13-14 50 free
13-year-old Erin McElfresh (28.53) of Lansing Cats won the race, while 14-year-old Ellen Marcus (28.64), of Badger Swim Club finished second. 14-year-old Rachel Cho (28.86) of Long Island Aquatic Club placed third.

Boys 13-14 50 free
Long Island Aquatic Club's Austin Kowalsky, 14, grabbed first place with a time of 26.47. Garrett Pullis (26.68) and Brian Stiles (26.99), both 14 from Morris Country Swim Club rounded out the top three.

Girls 10-U 50 fly
10-year-old Annmarie Picinich of Ridgewood YMCA won with a time of 33.80. 10-year-old Tatum Lawson of Berkeley Aquatic Club came in second with a time of 35.30. 10-year-old Emily Hung of X-Cel Swimming swam a time of 35.67 to place third in the event.

Boys 10-U 50 fly
Scarlet Aquatic Club's Justin Torres, 10, placed first with a time of 36.32. Second and third place went to Chris Balbo, 10, of Elite Swim Club (36.93) and Ryan Ding, 10, from Berkeley Aquatic Club with a time of 36.97.

Girls 11-12 100 fly
Ridgewood YMCA's Michelle Kim (1:08.23), 12, placed first, with a five-second triumph in timed finals. Berkeley Aquatic Club's Erin Barry (1:13.28), 12, finished second and Tidal Wave Swim Team's Natalia Rincon (1:13.56), 12, touched just behind for third.

Boys 11-12 100 fly
Lansing Cats' Ryan Nicholson, 12, finished first with a time of 1:04.48. Nicholson shot down the meet record in the race, as Thomas Southmayd previously held the standard with a 1:04.63 set in 2000.

Second and third place went to John Om, 12, of Ridgewood YMCA with a time of 1:08:26 and Ryan Sebastian, 12, of Elite Swim Club with a time of 1:09.44.

Girls 13-14 200 fly
13-year-old Isla Hutchinson-Maddox came in first with a sectional time of 2:20.19, breaking the meet record in the event. The record broke the previous standard of 2:22.31 set by Melinda Rehm.

Erin McElfresh of the Lansing Cats came in second with a sectional cut of 2:28.74. 13-year-old Julia Cunningham of X-Cel Swimming placed a close third with a sectional time of 2:29.44.

Boys 13-14 200 fly
Long Island Aquatic Club's Michael Lennon, 14, won timed finals with a sectional time of 2:14.79. Lennon also cleared the meet record as Tony Wareck owned the previous time with a 2:15.40 set in 1999.

13-year-old Charles Barry (2:17.36) and 14-year-old Samuel Mo (2:17.54), both of Badger Swim Club, finished in second and third place, respectively.

Girls 10-U 200 IM
10-year-old Cathy Tan of Long Island Aquatic Club took first with a time of 2:45.87. 10-year-old Julien Zhu from Scarlet Aquatic Club came in second in 2:54.54. 10-year-old Maryann Lennon from Long Island Aquatic Club grabbed third, swimming a time of 2:56.12.

Boys 10-U 200 IM
10-year-old Kevin Miller (2:51.06) of Lansing Cats took the gold in the timed final event. 10-year-old Ryan Ding (2:53.42) of Berkeley Aquatic Club placed second, and 10-year-old Chris Balbo (2:55.79) of Elite Swim Club finished in third place.

Girls 11-12 100 breast
Berkeley Aquatic Club's Erin Barry, 12, grabbed the gold medal with a time of 1:19.73. Silver and bronze went to Metuchen Edison YMCA's Audris Oh, 12, with a time of 1:24.09, and 12-year-old Long Island Aquatic Club swimmer Zoe Gregorace with a time of 1:24.64, respectively.

Boys 11-12 100 breast
12-year-old Harold Choo of Ridgewood YMCA earned first place with a time of 1:17.65. 12-year-old teammate John Om snatched second in 1:19.00, while 12-year-old Wayne Chan of Metuchen Edison YMCA took third with a time of 1:21.71.

Girls 13-14 100 free
Ellen Marcus (1:02.12), 14, of Badger Swim Club touched first for the victory. Isla Hutchinson-Maddox (1:02.43), 13, of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics placed second, while Rachel Cho (1:03.08), 14, of Long Island Aquatic Club wrapped up third.

Boys 13-14 100 free
Paul Soley, 14, of Berkeley Aquatic Club came in first with a time of 57.27. Samuel Mo, 14, of Badger Swim Club (57.49) and Austin Kowalsky, 14, of Long Island Aquatic Club (57.91) earned second and third place, respectively.

Girls 10-U 200 free
10-year-old Cathy Tan (2:28.99) of Long Island Aquatic Club won the event with a zone qualifying time. 10-year-old Kaitlin Stearns (2:29.02) of Elite Swim Club placed second, while 10-year-old Madison Northshield (2:36.45) of Delaware Swim Team finished third.

Boys 10-U 200 free
Dylan VanManen, 10, of Long Island Aquatic Club, earned first place with a time of 2:31.13. 10-year-old Kevin Miller of the Lansing Cats placed second by swimming 2:32.75. 10-year-old Justin Torres finished third with a time of 2:34.52.

Girls 11-12 200 free
Ridgewood YMCA's Michelle Kim, 12, seized first place with a time of 2:15.51. Elite Swim Club's Regan Kology, 12, scored second with a time of 2:18.11, while Ridgewood YMCA's Sara Nestrowitz, 12, grabbed third place with a time of 2:18.85.

Boys 11-12 200 free
12-year-old Ryan Nicholson of the Lansing Cats finished first, clocking a time of 2:13.67. 12-year-old Alex Smith of the Westchester Marlins touched second with a time of 2:15.35. 12-year-old Harold Choo of Ridgewood YMCA grabbed third in 2:16.88.

Girls 13-14 400 IM
Isla Hutchinson-Maddox, 13, of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics achieved a first-place finish with a sectional time of 5:13.34. Kristine Ng, 14, of Scarlet Aquatic Club took second place with a sectional time of 5:18.40, while Daniela Suarez, 13, of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics placed third with a time of 5:20.15.

Boys 13-14 400 IM
Will Rappaport, 14, of Badger Swim Club, earned first place with a sectional time of 4:48.82. Michael Lennon, 14, of the Long Island Aquatic Club touched second in 4:53.24. Charles Barry, 13, of the Badger Swim Club, came in third with a time of 4:56.16.

Girls 10-U 50 breast
Isabella Weiner (41.87), 10, from the Westchester Marlins snagged first, while Alexa Buckley (42.35), 10, from Berkeley Aquatic Club grabbed second. Cathy Tan (43.12), 10, from Long Island Aquatic Club placed third.

Boys 10-U 50 breast
Long Island Aquatic Club's Ryan Brown, 10, had a winning time of 42.76. Berkeley Aquatic Club's David Hua, 10, snatched second with a time of 43.62, while Westchester Marlin's Mark McLaughlin, 9, secured third with a time of 44.67.
