September 22, 2008 Bill Bell's listings while quite complete, cam be misleading in some of his superlatives in parenthesis. He mentions in the 50 free alone that when Sullivan broke his 50 free down under, it was the second time a WR was broken in 20 plus years. He doesn't explicitly imply it only is for 50 free, or that such a notation is for men only. So naturally, one could argue that the statement, as it is written, is not entirely true. Go back to the '91 Worlds in that awesome race between Jorg Hoffman and Kieran Perkins in Perth and the WR they shattered IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE.
He does an incredible and thorough job, but just want to point out that, at least in that case, the only WR's set in the Southern Hemisphere in the last 20 years were not only 50 freestyles. But perhaps I am looking into it too much and all the facts are just overload for my system Submitted by: Park528
September 22, 2008 Missing: Nathan Adrian's 48.46 100 Free from trials, Erik Vendt's 7:48.91 800 (split from 1,500) from Missouri Grand Prix
Bal's 53.09 placed BEFORE Vyatchanin's 53.06
Also might be worth noting about Boggiato's 3rd straight 4th place in 400 IM with his 4:12.16 Submitted by: SwimDER94
September 22, 2008 Unless otherwise secified, all references to a specific athlete within an event refer to that eventg only.
So for example, if it says Tom Jager was first and until this spring only man to ever set a world-record in the Southern Hemisphere the refernce ws to the 50 free event only.
Perhaps I should have been more explicit in the explanation.
SWIMDER94 is correct inthat Nathan Adrian's 100 free of 48.46 from the Missouri GP was omitted.
The 50/50 list was culled from a much larger list and sometimes a performance accidentally gets knocked off as I'm going through and cutting, as wasw the case here.
Leaving off Vendt's 800 free split from his mile @ Missouri GP wss inexcuseable, especially when the time (7:48.91) is his pr.
I probably looked @ his mile time, saw it didn't make my performances' cut so didn't bother looking @ his splits withinthe race.
As for Val being ahead of VCyatchanin in the 100 back even though he's .03 slower, hey, C'MON ON!
He's an American...ain't he?
Just kidding! Typo that's all.
Thx for catching these errors...I try and keep the rankings as correct and accurate as possible but sometimes I just miss things.

September 22, 2008 The fact about Leveax and Bernard being the only French to win olympic medals over the 50 free is incorrect because Mallia Matella won a silver in Athens 2004 Submitted by: kan24
September 23, 2008 Thanks Mr Bell for your comments. I continue to admire your thoroughness and only was thinking that perhaps with such complete thoroughness comes explicitness. Job well done. Submitted by: Park528
September 24, 2008 I think the swimming community appreciates Bill Bell's tireless efforts to compile his "Top 50" list.
Nonetheless, the large number of typos, misspelled words, style variations, and errors lessens the list's value (and enjoyment). Submitted by: SilverMedalMel
September 24, 2008 Agreed. Submitted by: Park528
September 24, 2008 If SilverMedalMel and/or Park 5218 wish I'd be more than happy to send them the full lsits, m/w, lcm, scy and they can correct, update and "fix" them to their hearts' content!
They can also continuously update them as well. Submitted by: slickwillie32
September 25, 2008 Without any of that sarcasm, I would actually be happy to assist in an editing and fact checking when you do your lists. I would consider it an honor. But that said, we have both given you lots of due credit, and in my case, I mean it heartfelt. Submitted by: Park528
