Four Masters World Records Tumble in Canada

QUEBEC, Canada, May 22. FOUR Masters world records fell during the Canadian Masters National Championships held in Quebec over the weekend during the short course competition.

Len Gushe clocked a time of 4:48.17 in the men's 45-49 400 IM, which cleared the former record of 4:48.97 set by Lincoln Djang in 2004.

Joan Parnell followed with a global standard in the women's 80-84 division. She hit the wall in the 100 IM with a time of 1:56.27 to eclipse Jean Troy's 1:56.65 set in 2007.

Two relay records fell as well. Masters Swimming of British Columbia turned in a 2:14.82 in the women's 240-279 200 free relay to beat the former record of 2:18.76 set by Takatsuki of Japan in 2006. Meanwhile, Piscine Du Parc Olympique posted a time of 2:22.32 in the mixed 72-99 200 medley relay. FINA, however, does not have a recognized world record in that division for the event.
