Virginia Tech Promotes Braden Holloway to Associate Head Coach

BLACKSBURG, Virginia, May 14. THE Virginia Tech Athletics Department, along with swimming and diving head coach Ned Skinner, announced Wednesday the promotion of four-year assistant coach Braden Holloway to his new title, Associate Head Coach for Men's and Women's Swimming.

Holloway originally joined Tech in July of 2004 and has played an instrumental role in helping guide the program through its first four seasons in the Atlantic Coast Conference. This past season, both the men's and women's squads set records for dual meet victories while having athletes score points at the NCAA Championships. Holloway has also coached and developed a handful of ACC individual and relay champions, including All-Americans Gus Calado and Jessica Botzum.

"Coach Holloway and his family have embraced our university and community completely and has shown 100% loyalty to this program and we wanted to show our commitment to him," Skinner said. "He is a young coach who has impacted our program in every capacity, and we wanted to make sure he and the swimming world knows how much we value and respect the work that he has done here. We look forward to more years of success and enjoyment with such a fine person and excellent swim coach. Braden has certainly earned his promotion and new title."

Holloway had plenty of experience in the ACC before moving to Tech, as he was a member of the NC State swimming and diving team as a student-athlete. With the Wolfpack, he made the All-ACC team from 1998-2001 and became an ACC champion and an ACC record-holder. Announced to the ACC 50th anniversary men's swimming and diving team in 2002, Holloway was a five-time All-American, a two-time Academic All-American and an Olympic Trials qualifier.

After completing his collegiate career, Holloway served as a volunteer coach for his alma mater for one year, followed by a stop as an assistant coach at The University of the South from 2003-04. While there, Holloway coached an All-American, and his teams set four school records and had several individual titles.

A 2001 graduate of NC State with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management, Holloway earned his master's in education from Virginia Tech in the summer of 2007.

He is a native of Baton Rouge, La., and is marred to the former Mary Mittendorf. They have a two-year-old daughter, Blythe Marie, and a two-month-old son, Ethan.

Special thanks to Virginia Tech for contributing this report.
