Swimming Fares Well in NCAA Academic Performance Report

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, May 7. OUT of the nearly 220 teams that missed the mark in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) recent Academic Progress Rate release, only two of them came from aquatics sports.

The University of Tennessee men's team and the Florida International women's team are the only two programs from swimming that are subject to penalties based on academic performance for the 2007-08 year.

Teams are subject to penalties anywhere from warnings, to lost scholarships, to postseason bans, and even postseason bans for the entire school is one team is penalized enough years in a row.

It's nice to see that the student-athletes from aquatics sports are proving that academic struggles are typically the exception rather than the rule.
