Another World Record for Pankratov!!! -- February 5, 1997

Denis Pankratov broke his second short-course world record in less than a week.

Pankratov swam a 51.93 in the 100m butterfly on the second day of the World Cup 7 in Imperia, Italy. He bettered Canadian Marcel Gery's previous standard of 52.07, set in 1990.

Pankratov, who won both 100m and 200m butterfly Olympic gold medals in Atlanta last year, also staked a claim to the 200m butterfly short-course world record with a time of 1:52.64 at the World Cup in Gelsenkirchen, Germany last week.

He becomes the first man to hold all four butterfly world records, 100m and 200m long-course and short-course, since the "Albatross" Michael Gross.
