CAA Championships: UNC Wilmington Men, Towson Women Win Title -- March 1, 2008

FAIRFAX, Virginia, March 1. UNC Wilmington cruised to its seventh-straight CAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championship, tallying 702 points during the four-day event while Towson picked up its first ever CAA Women's Swimming & Diving crown.

UNC Wilmington was over 100 points ahead of second-place men's finisher Old Dominion (586). Delaware claimed third place with 505 points, followed by George Mason with 480.5.

On the women's side, Towson scored 753.5 points, followed by William & Mary (470), UNC Wilmington (461) and George Mason (438).

William & Mary's Katie Radloff was named Women's Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight year after totaling 60 points and setting three CAA Championship meet records (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle). She also had NCAA automatic qualifying times in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.

Drexel's Kate Hynes earned Women's Outstanding Diver of the Meet honors for the third time. The junior broke her own CAA Championship meet records, winning each board by more than 30 points.

George Mason's Eric Knight earned Outstanding Swimmer of the meet honors on the men's side. The junior captured the 50 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke.

UNC Wilmington's Kobi Salinas garnered the Outstanding Diver of the Meet award on the men's side. The freshman swept both boards, winning the three-meter program by 36 points.

Radloff set the championship record in the 50 freestyle on Saturday evening, stopping the clock in 49.25 seconds, an NCAA automatic qualifying time. George Mason's Sarah Bizer (50.41) and James Madison P.J. Naber (50.75) had NCAA ‘B' cut times.

Towson's Pat Mead was named Women's Swimming Coach of the Year for the second time. She had previously received the honor during the 2005 season. Drexel's Larry May was named Women's Diving Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year.

UNC Wilmington's Dave Allen and Delaware's John Hayman were named Men's Swimming Co-Coaches of the Year. This was the Allen's fifth time receiving the honor and Hayman's first. UNC Wilmington's Marc Ellington was named Men's Diving Coach of the Year for the third time in the past four years.
