CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, February 16. THE Wingate University men's swimming team captured its first conference title, winning the 2008 Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships at the Mecklenburg County Aquatics Center (MAC) pool in downtown Charlotte. The Bulldog men posted 821 points. Washington and Lee University was second with 638 points. The Wingate women's swimming team was second, notching 677 points. Johns Hopkins University won the women's crown with 746 points.
The Wingate men won four events Saturday, while the Bulldog women picked up one additional victory. Next on the horizon for Wingate is the 2008 NCAA Division II men's and women's swimming and diving championships. The 2008 national event takes place March 12-15 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo. The University of Missouri, Rolla is the host for this year's national championships.
