Cal-Berkeley v. Southern Cal

LOS ANGELES, California, February 1. THE fifth-ranked California women's swimming team cruised to a 202-98 Pac-10 dual meet victory over USC, improving to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in conference action.

Cal dominated the freestyle events, capturing sweeps in the 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000. Senior Emily Silver took first place in the 50 free with a time of 23.07, followed by teammates Madison Kennedy (23.10) and Hannah Wilson (23.45).

Kennedy held off Wilson (50.17) in the 100 free, touching the wall with a time of 50.06. Dana Vollmer came in third with a time of 50.45. Kennedy earned also another narrow victory over Silver in the 200 free with a first place time of 1:48.27. Silver swam a second-place time of 1:48.66.

Lauren Boyle took first place in the 500 (4:49.42) and the 1000 free with a blistering time of 9:54.71.

Lauren Rogers swept both backstroke events, earning first place victories in the 100 (54.83) and the 200 with a time of 1:59.94.

Vollmer left no doubt in the butterfly events, cruising to first place finishes in the 100 (53.32) and the 200 (1:57.16) – both NCAA qualifying times.

It was all Cal in the 200 IM as Silver captured first place with a time of 2:02.37, followed by Rachel Ridgeway one second later with a second place time of 2:03.37.

Samantha Young continued to excel in the diving events, capturing victories in the one and three-meter boards.
